PEPPER ( BOTAANICAL NAME: PIPER NIGRUM )

                                             PEPPER: PIPER NIGRUM 



The Black pepper is incredibly popular and known as King of spices and well known spice

used in cooking and medicinal world of siddhas since ancient times. It has the native of

Kerala. And spread all over the world.

Botanically, peppercorn belongs to the family of Piperaceae of the genus of piper; and

known scientifically as Piper nigrum.





It is a perennial vine and climber . The pepper plant starts producing small round berries at

about three to four years of cultivation. In general, the pepper corns were harvested while

half matured and just about to turn red. They are then left to dry in the sunlight until they

become shrivel and turns black.  The white pepper got its name when a completely ripe

berry soaked in the brine in order to remove its dark outer skin exposing inner white

pepper seed.

Black peppers have a strong pungent and spicy in taste and flavor that comes from its

volatile oil such as piperine





















Cubeb or tailed pepper berries are dried unripe fruits of the Piper Cubeba vine which is

grown mainly in Indonesia. They appear similar to black pepper corns but have a 

characteristic stalk which os called as its tail.

Pepper corns contain an impressive disease preventing and health promoting properties.

Peppers have been used since very long centuries.

Peppercorns contain inflammatory, carminative and anti flatulent qualities. Its volatile

essential oil called Piperine an amine alkalide which gives aromatic flavor to the pepper.

The above mentioned properties of pepper cause gut motility as well as the digestion power

 by increaaing the gastro intestinal enzyme secretions.








Black pepper contains a good source of minerals like potassium, calcium, zinc, manganese

iron and magnesium.
They are excellent source of vital B complex groups of vitamins such as Pyridoxine

riboflavin, thiamine and niacin.




The Black pepper, dry ginger and long pepper are combined together and ground into a 

coarse mixture which is called as TRIKADUGAM . This is the best home remedy for cold
,
digestion, cough and other bronchial complaints.


In Village areas people use this black pepper powder for inhalation in case of fainting.


Black pepper is successfully used in treating with cough.
